The designer is putting his own spin on the brand's house codes.
One of the most highly anticipated shows of NYFW was undoubtedly Heron Preston. While Preston has deep connections with New York, he had not presented a collection in the city since his collaboration with NYC’s sanitation department in 2016. Pre-pandemic the designer had showed several times in Paris, subsequently moving to digital presentations during the COVID-19 outbreak. His appearance on the NYFW schedule for the fall 2023 season marked something of a new chapter for the designer, a chapter where, as he put it, “Anything Goes!” The co-ed fashion show opened with a women dressed in a sheer one-shoulder catsuit accessorized with a furry pump which we would see throughout the show. This look contrasted with those that followed, many of which included utility features synonymous with the brands aesthetic. For men, notable looks included utility vests which were layered over hoodies and paired with fur boots. In terms of silhouette, trousers were generally baggy and paired with workwear jackets, bright puffer outwear pieces as well as shirt and tie combinations. The finale menswear look was an interesting take on tailoring, featuring a black puffer-esque suit with cream piping – definitely a highlight of a strong collection.
