The designer is putting his own spin on the brand's house codes.
Daniel Lee is best known for his reinvigoration of Italian fashion house Bottega Veneta. After parting ways with Bottega, he was soon snapped up to replace Ricardo Tisci at the British heritage house Burberry. There is undoubtedly a lot of pressure on any newly appointed creative director in advance of their first collection for a brand. However, given Lee's enormous success at Bottega, the stakes were arguably even higher. For his debut, co-ed collection for Burberry, Lee made it clear that winds of change had arrived at Burberry's door. While the collection included many of the house codes (plaid, trench coats, elements of the brand's logo), they were reinterpreted into more modern, almost punk-inspired looks. The accessories, something Lee is especially known for and a category the business heads of Burberry are surely looking to beef up, were also standouts from the collection, with several looks featuring exaggerated faux fur hats and large satchel totes for both genders (among many other bag offerings). While we don't yet know if Lee will be able to generate the level of commercial success at Burberry as he did at Bottega, he definitely has generated a renewed buzz around Britain's most famous fashion house with this show; check-out some of my favorite menswear looks below:
